Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

It was a slugfest Saturday night in Sioux Falls and the Winnipeg Goldeyes came out on the losing end.

Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning and gave the Sioux Falls Pheasants a 13-12 win over the Goldeyes before 2,207 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Winnipeg jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, thanks largely to a seven-run third inning, but watched Sioux Falls climb back into the game with five runs on their own in the third inning.

After the Goldeyes extended their lead to 12-5 in the top of the seventh inning, the Pheasants replied with four runs in the bottom of the inning and three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game before Abercrombie came out as the hero in extra innings.

Luis Alen and Fehlandt Lentini each led Winnipeg with three hits in the game, while Jon Weber contributed three RBI. Every member of the Goldeyes had a hit in the game, except for Ridge Carpenter, who went zero-for-three.

In the Sioux Falls dugout, Abercrombie hit two home runs as part of a four-for-six night that also saw him rack up seven RBI.

Goldeyes starter Zach Baldwin lasted four innings and took the no decision. Outfielder Ridge Carpenter came in to pitch the 11th inning and his second pitch Abercrombie turned into the winning run. Brandon Rapoza got the win after tossing the 10th and 11th innings of the game.

The Pheasants and Goldeyes meet for the second game of the four-game series Sunday night at Sioux Falls Stadium. Game time is 5 p.m. and all the action can be heard on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with 55 with Forney at 3:30 p.m.
