Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (42-55) routed the Kansas City T-Bones (47-50) by a score of 12-0 in front of a season-high 5,108 fans on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
The RedHawks came through with a big win on Customer Appreciation Night in front of the seventh sellout crowd of the season. The attendance of 5,108 is the largest crowd this year at Newman Outdoor Field. Fargo-Moorhead provided plenty of action for their fans, stringing together 15 hits for 12 runs while the pitching staff piled up 14 strikeouts.
Zach Penprase got the RedHawks on the board right away in the first inning. Penprase singled, stole second base, and scored later in the inning on a base hit by Jesse Hoorelbeke.
That proved to be just the start of the scoring for the RedHawks as they plated six runs in the fourth inning to open up a 7-0 lead. The first six batters in the inning reached based and four of them scored. Todd Jennings and Jonathan Wyatt each batted in a pair of runs with singles. Two more runs crossed the plate later in the inning when Nic Jackson roped a line drive at the first baseman, Jim Fasano, which he was unable to handle. Kansas City committed three errors in the fourth inning with Fasano's being the most costly.
The RedHawks added another five runs in the eighth inning. Donald Blunt started that barrage by hitting his first professional home run to lead off the inning and make the game 8-0. The rest of the team followed suit as the first four hitters of the inning scored, eight of the first nine batters reached base, and the RedHawks made the score 12-0.
Trevor Longfellow (2-2) won his second straight start at home after pitching six and a third scoreless innings. Longfellow has not allowed a run at Newman Outdoor Field over 13.1 innings in his two starts while striking out 17 batters, including eleven tonight. Devin Anderson (7-8) was tagged with the loss. Anderson gave up nine runs (seven earned) on twelve hits.
Several Fargo-Moorhead batters had big nights. Penprase scored three runs. Hoorelbeke (4-for-4) was perfect on the night, and Wyatt, who entered the game 1-for-17 (.059) versus left handed pitchers, went 4-for-4 against Kansas City's left handed starter. Meanwhile, C.J. Retherford extended his hit streak to 13 games.
The RedHawks will play the second game in their four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 1:00 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
