Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

KANSAS CITY, KS - It was a Happy Canada Day for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-26) who defeated the Kansas City Monarchs (28-17) 8-3 on Saturday night at Legends Field. Who else on Canada Day to help lead the way than the Peterborough, Ontario native Travis Seabrooke (4-1) as he earned the win. He is the first Canadian pitcher representing the Goldeyes to earn the win on this holiday. The left-hander followed up his complete game shutout going six innings, striking out six while giving up two runs. Travis' last five Winnipeg outings he's allowed three runs in 25 innings--1.08 ERA. The Goldeyes all-time on Canada Day are 11-4 and it was their first win on this day since 2018.

Winnipeg was down 2-0 going to the third inning and began its rally with two out. Shortstop Andy Armstrong singled. Following him, right fielder Max Murphy came up and ripped a single to left field. However, the ball was misplayed by Kansas City left fielder Dylan Rosa as it went to the wall which allowed Armstrong to score from first. Murphy ended up at second and then scored on a single to center by first baseman Hidekel Gonzalez which tied the game.

The Goldeyes took the lead for good in the fourth inning scoring twice with two out. A double by center fielder Tra Holmes was followed by a single from third baseman Dayson Croes.

Kansas City much of the way didn't manage much of a threat against Seabrooke who is now 1-0 lifetime against the Monarchs.

Going to the ninth, Winnipeg led 5-2 and had runners at first and second with two out. Second baseman Keith Torres walked on a full count which set the stage for Holmes (1). Tra who has excelled in two-out run-producing situations did so again, he worked the count full from Kansas City reliever Beaux Bonvillain and belted a home run to left field which jumped the lead to 8-2. It was his first homer of the year, and gave him four RBI's. Holmes has 15 RBI's this year but 13 in two-out run-producing situations.

The Goldeyes bullpen combined for three innings without allowing an earned run. Tyler Jandron posted zeroes in innings seven and eight and Samuel Adames gave up one run (not earned) in the ninth.

Kansas City starter Brandon Finnegan (3-2) suffered the defeat. He gave up four runs (all earned) while fanning six. The nine hits he issued were the most allowed by him this season.

It was Winnipeg's first win against Kansas City in 2023 as the Monarchs lead the season series 4-1.

The final game of this series is Sunday afternoon at 1:00. The probables are Winnipeg right-hander Luis Ramirez (3-4) and Kansas City righty Miller Hogan (0-1).

The Goldeyes return home Friday, July 7 when the Milwaukee Milkmen visit Shaw Park.
