
Birds Club Three Homeruns, Down Chicago Behind Walters' Gem

Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Rosemont, IL - The Canaries hit three home runs on Saturday and Mitchell Walters struck out 11 opposing batters as Sioux Falls defeated Chicago 6-5 at Impact Field.
The Birds opened the third inning with five consecutive hits to take an early 3-0 lead. Trevor Achenbach and Darnell Sweeney each homered in the fourth inning before the Dogs got on the board with an RBI double in their half of the fifth.
A solo homerun in the sixth inning got the Dogs within 5-2 before Mike Hart crushed a solo shot in the seventh. Chicago inched closer with a two-run round-tripper in the bottom of the eighth and added a run in the ninth. But closer Charlie Hasty struck out the side and stranded the tying run at second base to earn his tenth save.
Sweeney, Hart and Jordan Barth each finished with two hits and Walters allowed two runs on five hits over six strong innings. The Canaries are now 19-27 and will look to clinch the three-game series when the two teams meet Sunday at 3:00pm.
