Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, OH - In the final home game of the 2005 season, the Dayton Dragons (57-78, 27-38) sent their fans home happy, as they beat up on the Wisconsin TimberRattlers (74-61, 35-30) by a 16-7 final score on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field in front of a packed house of 8,736. Dragons reliever Aaron Garrison (W, 1-1) notched the victory while TimberRattlers starter Shawn Nottingham (L, 0-1) took the loss.
Both teams traded two-run first innings, but the Dragons pitching staff ultimately took over, and the offense would follow suit. Dayton's starter Joe Powers (ND) allowed four runs on four hits in his 3.2 inning stint, however his counterpart Nottingham didn't do much better; the Wisconsin starter allowed eight runs on nine hits in just 4.0 innings of work. In his final inning, Dayton batted through the order, plating five runs on six hits.
When Garrison took over in the fourth inning, he completely stifled the TimberRattlers hitters - holding Wisconsin without a hit during his 2.1 innings of work. Cody Strait, meanwhile, paced the Dragons offensively; Thursday's leadoff batter picked up four RBI and scored three of his own. Bradley Key was also on an offensive tear - going 3 for 5 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Carlos Bohorquez (ND) got the ball in the seventh inning, but did not pitch as effectively as his predecessor. Bohorquez allowed three runs on three hits - all three tallies produced by one swing of the bat, a home run by Oswaldo Navarro. However, with an 11-7 lead that would be extended to 15-7 in the Dragons seventh, there was just too much of a deficit for Wisconsin to overcome.
Alexander Farfan (ND) pitched the ninth inning, getting Brent Johnson to strike out looking - ending the Dragons final home game of the 2005 season, and clinching a 16-7 victory at a sold out Fifth Third Field.
The Dragons will close out the remainder of the 2005 season with one final road trip to Fort Wayne and a four game series with the Wizards beginning Friday night with a 7pm first pitch. RHP Ramon Ramirez will get the ball for the Dragons in the series opener. The game can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1410-AM and on the Internet at www.daytondragons.com, with the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 pm.
