DAYTON, OH -- The Dayton Dragons pounded the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 16-7 Thursday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton. Cody Strait scored three runs and drove in four as the Dragons banged out nineteen hits for the victory.
Jeff Clement put the Rattlers (74-61 overall, 35-30 second half) in front with a two-run homer run in the top of the first inning.
Dayton (57-78, 27-38) tied the game three batters into the bottom of the first. Wisconsin starting pitcher Shawn Nottingham walked Strait, the leadoff batter. Adam Rosales followed with an RBI double. An RBI single by Tonys Gutierrez made the score 2-2.
Rosales struck again in the bottom of the third. Nottingham walked Strait to start the inning again and Rosales followed with another RBI double to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.
Wisconsin went back in front on a line drive two-run home run by Marshall Hubbard in the top of the fourth inning. Hubbard's homer extended his hitting streak to twelve games and put the Rattlers up 4-3.
This lead didn't last long either. The Dragons scored five times in the bottom of the fourth to grab an 8-4 lead. A three-run triple by Strait, an RBI double by Jorge Mejia, and an RBI single by Bobby Mosby accounted for all the scoring.
Dayton padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI single by Gutierrez was followed by a two-run homer by Jeremiah Piepkorn and the Dragons led 11-4.
Oswaldo Navarro drew the Rattlers closer with a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the seventh.
But, the Dragons scored four more times in the bottom of the seventh. Three runs scored on a homer to left by Bradley Key. The other scored on a sacrifice fly by Gutierrez.
Strait finished off the scoring for the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
