Godfrey Heads to Hershey

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Cail MacLean announced today that defenseman Josh Godfrey has been called up to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Godfrey, 23, skated in 44 games with the Stingrays this season earning 24 points (13g, 11a) and ranks first among ECHL defensemen in goals, power play tallies (9) and shots (147). Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2008-09 campaign, the Collingwood, ON native registered 23 goals and 42 assists for 65 points in 110 contests. Selected to the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic in Bakersfield, CA, Godfrey set a new ECHL Skills Competition record with a shot of 102.7 miles per hour in the Reebok Hardest Shot. Prior to turning pro, Godfrey spent four seasons in the OHL starring for Guelph and Sault St. Marie. While with the Greyhounds, the 34th overall draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2007 recorded 119 points (47g, 72a) in 158 games.

The Stingrays return to action tonight, Tuesday, February 15 and kick off a four-game series against their in-state rival, the Greenville Road Warriors, at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Battle of the Palmetto State moves to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC on Friday, February 18 and Saturday, February 19 at 7:05 p.m. and returns to the Coliseum on Sunday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m. Celebrate Kid's Day with the Stingrays featuring $5 kid's tickets (walk-up only)! Come early for a pre-game kid's carnival and stay after the contest for post-game autographs with the entire Stingrays team!
