Victoria's Shantz Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J.- David Shantz of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 7-13. He also won the award for the week of Nov 15-21.

The 24 year old was 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage in two appearances last week as the ‚¬Ë†Salmon Kings swept a two-game series at Las Vegas.

Shantz recorded his second shutout of the season with 28 saves in a 2-0 win over the ‚¬Ë†Wranglers on Friday and then made 30 saves in a 4-2 win on Sunday.

The Burlington, Ontario native leads the ECHL with 2,297 minutes played and ranks second with 1,107 saves. In 39 games this season, he is 18-17-3 with a 2.74 goals-against average and a save percentage of .913.

A second round selection (37th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2004 NHL ‚¬Ë†Entry Draft, Shantz has appeared in 144 ECHL ‚¬Ë†games with Florida, Dayton, ‚¬Ë†Elmira and Victoria since 2006 posting a 75-47-15 record, six shutouts, a 2.85 goals-against average and a save percentage of .908. He also has appeared in 60 games with Rochester and Abbotsford of the American Hockey League going 20-27-7 with a 3.09 goals-against average and a save percentage of .900.

Shantz was named to the ECHL All-Star Game while with Florida in 2007 and with Victoria in 2010.

Runners Up: Ryan Nie, Kalamazoo (3-1-0, 2.68 GAA, .932 save pct.) and Shane Connelly, Trenton (2-2-0, 2.04 GAA, .920 save pct.).
