Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD- Rico Garcia struck out a franchise-high 12 batters and tossed 6.2 scoreless innings to lead the Hartford Yard Goats to a 4-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night. Reliever Rayon Gonzalez recorded his first save with 2.1 scoreless innings, as Hartford (12-14) snapped a three-game losing streak in front of 3,539 at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
Garcia, who has yielded one run in his last 16.2 innings, allowed four hits and did not walk a batter. After surrendering a lead-off triple to Aneury Taverez in the sixth, he struck out the next two hitters, before getting a ground out to end the threat. The Honolulu native improved his record to 2-0.
Hartford scored the only run it needed against the Red Sox affiliate in the second inning on a triple by Vince Fernandez and a double play ground out. Manny Melendez homered down the right field line in the sixth to add to the lead. The Yard Goats closed out the scoring in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Chris Iannetta and RBI-double by Colton Welker.
Iannetta, on a rehabilitation assignment from the Colorado Rockies, went 0-for-3 with his sac fly. Welker had a single, double and RBI for the Yard Goats and is 13-for-his-last-21.
Hartford goes for the series win on Wednesday at 10:35 AM. RHP Ashton Goudeau starts for Hartford against LHP Kyle Hart. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com.
