Published on April 30, 2019 under Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Sterling Sharp was terrific Tuesday night leading the Senators to a 3-1 win over Reading. Sharp received all the offense he would need when the Sens scored in the first inning and Rhett Wiseman homered in the second. Sharp pitched seven innings for the win. Jacob Condra-Bogan earned his first save with the Senators pitching the final two innings. The Sens have won four straight and go for a series sweep Wednesday against Reading. The Senators improved to 21-4 on the season while Reading falls to 11-10.
Turning Point
Harrisburg scored a run in the first, but Reading came right back in the second to score a run to tie the game. Rhett Wiseman leadoff the second inning and homered, immediately regaining the momentum for the Senators providing the turning point the Sens needed. Sterling Sharp took the momentum and at one point retired eleven straight batters.
On Capitol Hill
Sterling Sharp was outstanding Tuesday night. He faced 26 batters, struck out six of them and induced 14 ground outs. He allowed just four hits and one run. Only one out was hit off the ground, a line drive out. Jacob Condra-Bogan relieved Sharp and allowed a leadoff single in the eighth before retiring the final six batters.
With the Gavel
No Senators batter had two hits in the game, but they produced just enough hits to win. Luis Garcia singled in the first and scored on an RBI by Chuck Taylor. Rhett Wiseman hit his league leading eighth home run leading off the second inning. The Senators did walk a season-high seven times.
Filibusters
With the win Tuesday night, the Senators have guaranteed a series win and are now 8-0 in series this season.
The Sens are 4-0 against Reading this season.
The 21-4 record is the best record after 25 games in modern franchise history.
Coming in to play tonight, the Senators and Reading were the top two teams in team ERA.
The Senators have won 29 of 34 games dating back to last season.
Wiseman's home run was his first since April 15.
It was the 15th time in 25 games the Senators have allowed three runs or fewer.
