Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators share the top spot in the ECHL's South Division with the South Carolina Stingrays at 50 points after a 4-5 overtime loss against the Greenville Road Warriors on Sunday. The Glads continue to have a solid home record of 12-5-0-5 after defeating the Florida Everblades 4-3 Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett will return home to host two ECHL Atlantic Division teams, the Elmira Jackals and the Trenton Titans at the Arena this weekend. It will be the first time since November 25th that the Gladiators play a non-divisional opponent.

Elmira Jackals Preview:

Gwinnett will prepare to take on the Jackals for the second time this season. Elmira currently leads the ECHL Eastern Division with 53 points (26-12-1-0) on the season. The leading scorer for the Jackals' is Dustin Gazley with 12 goals and 27 assists. Also, Elmira has the 17-year NHL vet Craig Rivet, who anchors the Jackal defense with 14 points on the season (1 goal, 13 assists). In their last meeting, the Glads fell by one to Jackals in a 2-3 overtime loss. Joey Haddad and Brad Miller scored the two goals for Gwinnett.

Trenton Titans Preview:

The Trenton Titans are fourth in the ECHL Atlantic Division with a record of 14-19-3-3 this season. This weekend's tilt will be the Glads and Titans second meeting of the season. In the previous meeting, Gwinnett defeated Trenton 4-2. Rob Bordson leads the Trenton Titans in scoring with 29 points (13 goals, 14 assists).

Friday, January 20: Gwinnett Gladiators, 4, Florida Everblades, 3 - W

The Gwinnett Gladiators used Tyler Murovich's two point night to defeat the Florida Everblades 4-3 on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Glads remain on top of the ECHL's South Division with 49 points (20-11-6-3), three points ahead of the second place South Carolina Stingrays. Gwinnett's Brian Brutlag collected two assists in the win.

Saturday, January 21: Gwinnett Gladiators, 2, Greenville Road Warriors, 4 - L

The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 4-2 decision to the Greenville Road Warriors on Saturday night at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC. Justin Bowers posted a pair of goals including the game winner and also chipped in an assist to lead the Road Warriors to the win. Pat Galivan and Nikita Kashirsky picked up the goals for Gwinnett in the losing effort. Despite the loss, Gwinnett remains in first place in the ECHL's South Division with 49 points.

Sunday, January 22: Gwinnett Gladiators, 4, Greenville Road Warriors, 5 - OTL

Connor Shields scored with 25 seconds left in overtime to lift the Greenville Road Warriors to a 5-4 overtime win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Sunday afternoon at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC. Gwinnett trailed 4-2 with less than five minutes left in the third period but goals by Bryan Brutlag and Justin Milo helped the Gladiators push the game to overtime and earn one point in the overtime loss.

News & Notes:

Take Me Home Tonight : Home ice has been the friendly confines for the Gladiators this season posting 12-5-0-5 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The road has been inhospitable for the Gladiators as Gwinnett has not fared as well, earning just a 8-7-7-4 record over that span. Including Friday's game, the Gladiators will play their next eight straight games at home at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Tops for Gwinnett : Nikita Kashirsky is tops for Gwinnett with 28 points this season. In his last three games, he has collected a goal and two assists. The Moscow, Russia native is now seven points shy of tying a career best of 35 points posted with the South Carolina Stingrays in the 2009-10 season.

Overtime! The Gladiators skated in their league leading 13th game past regulation of the season in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Greenville Road Warriors on Sunday, January 22nd. Gwinnett has posted a 3-0-7-3 record in games past regulation this season and the Gladiators are on pace to tie the league record for most overtime/shootout losses in one season. The Gladiators are on pace to finish the year with 18 overtime/shootout losses tying the mark of 18 set by the Mobile Mysticks in the 2001-02 season.

Moving on Up : Forward Chris Clackson was called-up on Friday to the Houston Aeros, where he collected an assist in his two games with the Aeros this weekend. For Clackson, it was his second trip of the season to the AHL after he was called up to the Rochester Americans on November 21st and appeared in one game. Clackson currently ranks 7th in scoring on the Gladiators with 21 points off of eight goals and 13 assists this season.

Weekend Warrior : Aaron Bendickson added another assist in the Gladiators 5-4 overtime loss to Greenville Road Warriors on January 22nd. The forward has posted six points in nine games with the Gladiators this season. He has had a goal and five assists for Gwinnett.

Defense Wins Games : The Gladiator active defensemen are a combined +22 this season in +/- ranking. Shane Sims leads Gwinnett defensemen in this category with +10, which is also tops among Gladiators rookies this season.

Back in the Groove : Since Joey Haddad's return to the Gwinnett Gladiators from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, he has posted five points in the last three games. He is on a three-game point streak, scoring back-to-back goals for Gwinnett in the 5-4 overtime loss against the Greenville Road Warriors Sunday, January 22nd. He is currently ranked second for the Gladiators in scoring with 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists).
