Goaltender Jussi Rynnas Assigned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Jussi Rynnas ["YUH-see RINN-us"] has been assigned by the Maple Leafs from the Marlies to the Royals. In a separate transaction, goaltender Paul Dainton has been recalled from Reading by the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.

Rynnas (6'5/217) (24), who hails from Pori, Finland, is in his second pro season in North America. In fifteen games with the Marlies this year, he has compiled a record of 8-7-0 with a 2.63 goals against average and a .910 save percentage and three shutouts. Prior to his re-assignment, Rynnas won his four most recent starts for the Marlies (4-0-0, 0.53, .981) with two of those wins coming in back-to-back shutouts against the Syracuse Crunch (January 3) and the Oklahoma City Blazers (January 6). Last season with the Marlies, Rynnas went 10-15-3 with a 2.71 goals against and a .911 save percentage. Rynnas, who played for HC Assat in his hometown of Pori as a junior and young pro, was signed by the Maple Leafs after he led the premier professional league in Finland (SM-liga) in save percentage (.947) in 31 games with HC Assat in 2009-10.

Dainton, who was assigned to Reading by Springfield on January 13, 2012, played in three games for the Royals compiling a 1-2-0-0 record with a 3.03 goals against and a .933 save percentage. In 21 ECHL games this year with the Royals and the Chicago Express, Dainton, a first year pro from Halifax, Nova Scotia, has compiled a record of 7-5-2-1, with a 3.21 goals against and a .950 save percentage with 1 shutout.

The Royals complete a season-long four game home stand Wednesday night (January 25, 2012 @ 7:05) when the team faces the Wheeling Nailers for the seventh time this year. Wednesday night is a "College Night" with select draft beer just $2.00. The game night broadcast on Wednesday will start at 6:35 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading.
