Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators used a goal and an assist from Brad Schell and Andy Contois to slip past the Florida Everblades 3-1 on Saturday night on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett improves to 24-12-4 on the season with the win and remains in the top spot in the ECHL's South Division.
The Gladiators and Everblades skated to a scoreless tie through the first period as both teams finished with 11 shots on goal in the opening stanza.
Jim Jackson cracked open a scoreless tie with his 8th goal of the season at the 12:21 mark of the second period. Intercepting a clearing attempt in the neutral zone by a Florida defenseman, Jackson walked down the left wing side before flipping the puck on the backhand over the shoulder of Everblades netmdiner David Shantz for the marker. Jackson's goal came unassisted for Gwinnett.
Gwinnett took a 2-0 lead on the Everblades on Brad Schell's 19th goal of the season 5:12 into the 3rd period. Finding a lose puck in the slot, Schell tucked the puck up under the crossbar past Shantz for the goal. Colton Fretter and Andy Contois collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.
Contois then gave the Gladiators a 3-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season at the 6:38 mark of the third period. Picking the puck off the board off a feed from Schell, Contois was able to walk down the right wing wall and roll the puck past Shantz for the marker. Contois' marker came shorthanded for the Gladiators.
Florida broke Turple's shutout bid at the 9:48 mark of the final period as Derek Damon beat Turple from the left wing circle on a snapshot for the marker. Reggie Berg and Ernie Hartlieb collected the assists on the power play goal for the Everblades.
Turple finished with 30 saves in the win for Gwinnett, his sixth consecutive victory. The Gladiators were held scoreless on the power play in the win.
