Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - Coming out strong in the third period, the Trenton Titans were able to battle back from a sluggish middle frame to skate away with a 4-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers in front of 4,069 at the Sovereign Bank Arena.
Both squads had picked up two goals on the man-advantage to make it 2-2 heading into the third before John Laliberte gave the Titans the lead for good with 16:42 left in regulation. Trenton's rookie all-star spun away from a defender along the wall and snuck a backhand shot over the shoulder of Wheeling goalie Andy Franck.
Mark Pandolfo put the Titans a little extra breathing room at 13:06 with his second of two tallies on the night as his dump-in attempt was misplayed by Franck and deflected off of his stick and into the net.
Trenton jumped out to an early lead with the help of four, first-period man-advantages. Mike Pandolfo notched his league-leading 28th goal of the season at 11:02 before his cousin, Mark, lit the lamp just over two minutes later on a nice feed from Troy Riddle.
Wheeling would answer back with 2:10 left until the intermission as Adam Edinger was left all alone in front of Gregg Naumenko for a power play goal that made it 2-1 in favor of the Titans.
With his team skating 5-on-4, Ryan Moren tied the score in the second period taking a backdoor pass from Jon Smyth and tapping it into the net.
Naumenko finished with 25 saves to help the Titans go 5-1-1 in their last seven games. Trenton finished 2-for-8 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
