Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered a goal in the second and another in the third period and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Texas Wildcatters on Saturday night at The Hangar.
The Ice Pilots were unable to extend last night's victory over the Wildcatters and had to settle for a split on home ice. The two teams will meet again tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 2 pm at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas.
The game started well for the Ice Pilots as Sergei Ogorodnikov scored early to make it 1-0 from Mike Wirll and Dallas Steward. However, Texas netted the next two to make it 2-1 before Pensacola rallied to tie the game when Derrick Byfuglien scored through a maze of skates. Late in the first stanza Texas took control of the game on a power play goal and it was 3-2.
The Wildcatters would add a fourth goal early in the second period, but the Ice Pilots fought hard the remaining stretch of the stanza firing lots of shots on goal that were only denied by goaltender Miroslav Kopriva. Texas rounded out the scoring with a final marker early in the third period to make it 5-2.
The Ice Pilots out-shot the Wildcatters 37-32 including an 18 shot second period. Texas was 1 for four on the power play, while Pensacola was 0 for 4.
Evan Lindsay made his first start at home for the Pensacola Ice Pilots and played well despite taking the loss.
Fans can tune in to the third game of the trifecta between the Ice Pilots and the Wildcatters Sunday afternoon beginning with the pre-game show at 1:45 pm. The face-off follows at 2 pm with Denis J. Puska bringing you all of the action. The game is also available on the world wide web at www.icepilots.com by clicking on the Sportsjuice logo.
