Fresno Falcons News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons scored three goals in the final 7:40 of the third period, including the game-winner with 16 seconds remaining, to defeat the Stockton Thunder 4-3 in front of 6,557 fans at Stockton Arena.
Despite out-shooting Stockton 17-10 in the first period, Fresno found itself trailing 1-0 through 20 minutes of play. The Thunder's Troy Bodie tallied the lone goal of the opening period, picking up a loose puck on a goal-mouth scramble and sliding a shot past Scott Stirling at the 15:26 mark.
Stockton scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal 4:08 into the second period extending its lead to 2-0. Jason Beckett took a pass from Tim O'Connell at the top of the right-wing circle and ripped a wrist shot just over Stirling's glove.
Fresno had a chance to pull within one at 4:48 as Brett Hammond was awarded a penalty shot, but his bid was stopped by goaltender Devan Dubynk.
Bodie scored his second goal of the night, on another Thunder power play at 8:10, to stretch Stockton's lead to 3-0.
The Falcons finally got on the board at 17:30, scoring their 15th shorthanded goal of the season. Brett Hammond forced a steal on the far boards of the Thunder zone, and centered in front for Tyler Kindle streaking down the slot. Kindle put a move on Dubynk, and beat him with a wrist shot to the top shelf for his 10th goal of the year.
Luke Curtin pulled the Falcons within one at 12:20 of the third, scoring a power-play goal. Curtin gathered in a loose puck in the right-wing circle, and snapped a shot through Dubnyk's five-hole for his eighth goal of the season.
Fresno pulled even at 15:24. Curtin centered in front for Brian McConnell who was alone in front. McConnell beat Dubnyk with a quick redirection for his third goal of the year.
The Falcons capped their rally with a power-play goal at 19:47. Curtin's shot from the left point was deflected past Dubnyk by John Wroblewski who picked up his 10th goal of the season.
