
Gladiators Remain in First in Division, Blank Stingrays 3-0

The Gwinnett Gladiators won their second straight game and extended their unbeaten streak to seven games as they knocked off the South Carolina Stingrays (15-14-1-1) 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Gwinnett took command of the game early in the first period on Chris Clackson's 7th goal of the season. Clackson found a loose puck in the right wing circle and ripped a shot past Phillip Grubauer at 9:31 of the first period to open the scoring. David Strathman and Justin Milo collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.
Gwinnett added two goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead on the Stingrays. Milo notched his third goal of the season 3:06 into the middle period tucking the puck from a bad angle past Grubauer for the marker. Shane Sims and Colin Vock had the helpers on the goal.
Clackson added his second goal of the game and his eighth of the year late in the second period. Grubauer got pulled out of his net before Clackson jammed the puck past the netminder on the short side for the the marker.
Gwinnett clamped down defensively in the third period holding the Stingrays to just seven shots in the final stanza helping Jeff Jakaitis preserve his fourth shutout of the season.
Jakaitis grabbed his third straight shutout with 27 saves in the win. With the shutout, he tied the Gladiators team record for most shutouts by one goaltender in a single season with his fourth shutout of year tying the previous mark of four set by Michael Garnett in the Gladiators inaugural 2003-04 season.
In addition, Clackson extended his goal scoring streak to three games with his pair of goals in the victory for Gwinnett.
Gwinnett returns to action on Friday when they host the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m.
The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
