Goals by Foy, Martindale not enough in fifth consecutive defeat

LAS VEGAS - Mitch O'Keefe made 31 saves while Michael Busto and Barry Goers each chipped in with two assists from the blueline, to help the Las Vegas Wranglers send the Stockton Thunder (12-13-3, 27 points) to a 5-2 defeat in the Wranglers' annual "Midnight Game," before 4,622 fans at Orleans Arena on late Tuesday night.

Eric Lampe converted on a backhanded wraparound attempt with 8:24 left in the first period to put Las Vegas up 1-0 for his league leading 24th goal of the season.

The Thunder responded on a Matt Foy rebound just 2:01 later, on a play that began on Kevin Baker's blast from between the circles.

Ryan Martindale's fifth goal of the season lifted the Thunder ahead, 2-1 with 3:05 left in the period when he took Ian O'Connor's tape to tape feed at the goal mouth and beat O'Keefe on a deke at the left post.

Ash Goldie tied the game on a power play goal with 5:35 elapsed in the second period when he stashed a rebound past Olivier Roy's blocker at the goal mouth.

Josh Lunden restored the lead at the 1:11 mark of the third period on a wrist shot from between the circles that beat Roy over his glove.

Las Vegas then grabbed their biggest lead of the game at the 6:06 mark on a Jamie Fritsch wrist shot that caromed off traffic and deflected past Roy.

Huxley wrapped up the game on an empty net goal courtesy of Peter MacArthur's feed from the left wing with 22 seconds left.

Roy took the loss with 27 stops.

NOTES: Scratched for the game were Gabriel Levesque (injured reserve), Cameron Brodie (injured reserve), Jason Morgan (injured reserve), Garet Hunt (suspension) and Jordan Foreman (suspension) ... Foy's goal boosted his recent streak to 12 points in the previous nine games ... Las Vegas earned the edge in shots, 34-31 ... the Thunder dropped to 2-3-1 in the head to head series.
