Jan Steber netted the games first two goals to give the Ice Pilots an early 2-0 lead. Steber's first tally came 2:40 into the first period as he walked out of a pile along the dasher board, picked up his own rebound and flipped the puck past Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel for the marker. Matt Moore picked up an assist on the goal. Steber's second goal came at the 6:29 mark of the first corralling a rebound in the slot and beating Berkhoel to the short side for his second of the night. Blake Robson and Adam Tichauer collected the assists on the marker. Derek Nesbitt got the Gladiators on the board on the power play at the 14:54 mark of the first period.
