Charlotte Clinches Playoffs with Columbia Loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Florida Everblades used two third-period goals to beat the Charlotte Checkers 3-1 Saturday night in front of 9,109 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Kevin Bergin lead the Everblades with a hand in each goal for Florida.

Brandon Cullen scored the loan goal for the Checkers opening the scoring in the game at the 11:54 mark of the second period. Florida scored just before the end of the second period to tie the game at 1-1 with a goal from Phil Aucoin.

Florida scored the game winner as Daniel Sisca found the back of the net at the 6:19 mark of the third period and Bergin added the third goal at the 13:23 mark.

Florida outshot Charlotte 44 to 22 and scored 1-of-9 power play chances while the Checkers scored on 1-of-6. Phil Osear stopped 21 shots and picked up the win while Chris Holt took the loss making 38 saves.

The Checkers did clinch a spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs as Augusta defeated Columbia 6-2. The Checkers will be back in action Thursday as they close out their regular season home schedule against South Carolina at 7:00 pm.
