Lynx toast Inferno

March 25, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

four-goal second period was all the firepower the Augusta Lynx would need in downing their division rival Columbia Inferno 6-2 in front of 3,743 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center Saturday night.

Nicolas Corbeil gave the Lynx a 1-0 first period lead on a rebound goal off an Anthony Battaglia shot at 4:13, with Ryan Lang collecting the other assist.

In the second, Augusta busted the game open on goals from Jeff Mason, Joe Pereira, Brian Passmore, and Sean Stefanski for a 5-0 lead through two periods.

Columbia finally got on the board with a shorthanded goal from F.P. Guenette and a Dallas Flaman marker to make it a 5-2 game with just under four minutes remaining.

Feeling their playoff chances slipping away, the Inferno called for a stick measurement against the Lynx and moved onto the power play with 52 seconds remaining and pulled their goaltender. But the Lynx would turn the chance against the Inferno as Sam Ftorek recorded a shorthanded goal to seal the win for Augusta.

Both teams failed to score on the power play as Augusta went 0-for-7 and the Inferno went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Lynx are back at it again Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicking off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
