
Gladiators Beat Inferno, 3-1

The Gwinnett Gladiators used goals from three different players and 25 saves by goaltender Sean Fields to burn the Columbia Inferno 3-1 on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Dave McCulloh's first goal of the season gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead 4:13 into the opening period. Mike Vigilante sprinted down the right wing and behind the net before throwing the puck into the slot were a waiting Peter Flache got a stick on the puck but couldn't get a shot away before dishing the puck to McCulloch pinching in from his point position for the goal.
Lane Manson pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 on a slap shot from the left point. The defenseman took a pass from Kris Goodjohn and ripped the puck past Inferno netminder Rob McVicar for the goal at 10:25 of the first period. Chris Durno also picked up an assist on the tally.
Gwinnett took a 3-0 lead on a quick snapshot off the stick of Adam Smyth in the slot as the winger beat the netminer McVicar for the goal at 9:31 of the second period. Smyth tallied the goal unassisted for Gwinnett.
Columbia got on the board later in the period as Chanse Fitzpatrick jammed a loose puck past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields with 5:31 remaining in the second period. Trevor Demmans and Steve Slaton added the assists in the tally but the Inferno could get no closer.
The Gladiators clamped down defensively in the third period as Sean Fields made game high 10 saves in the third period to help the Gladiators improve to 15-5-4 on the season.
With an assist on McCulloch's goal, Peter Flache extended his assist streak to 8 consecutive games with at least one assist, tying a Gladiators team high for consecutive games with an assist.
