Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA The Louisiana IceGators 5 game winless streak came to an end Friday night in the Cajundome as Wes Mason's power play goal midway through the 3rd period lifted the Gators to a 2-1 win over the Texas Wildcatters.

The IceGators lit the lamp early in the first period as at 3:01 Shawn Skiehar's snap shot from the left circle went top shelf on the glove side of Texas netminder Phil Osaer for a 1-0 lead. For the rugged winger it was his 2nd of the year, rookie Roger Leonard received the only assist for his first professional point. Hundreds of stuffed animals rained down on the ice as "Teddy Bear Toss" night raised more than 500 toys for the Toys for Tots program. Texas tied the game at 8:37 when Terry Marchant walked out of the right corner and put a shot under the cross bar past Nathan Marsters to tie the score at one. In the first 20 minutes, the Gators outshot Texas 13-7.

After a scoreless 2nd period, The IceGators power play came out of it's slumber and provided the game winning goal at the 10:40 mark of the 3rd period. With time running down on a Louisiana who power play, a Texas letdown at the blue line gave the Gators a 2 on 1. Chris Thompson centered the puck to Mason who walked in and beat Osaer with a wrist shot to give the Gators a 2-1 win. For Mason, it was his 13th of the season and 6th on the power play. Shots on goal for the game were 27-21 in favor of the IceGators. On the power play the Gators were 1-5, Texas 0-3. With the win Louisiana runs it's record to 11-8-3, (25 points) and 4th place in the South Division.
