
Kaczowka Reassigned from Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (December 17, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that fourth-year tough man David Kaczowka has been reassigned back to the team from Peoria's American Hockey League (AHL) â the Worcester IceCats. Christie also announced that second-year right wing Joe Pereira has been re-signed, while fourth-year left wing/defenseman Mark Jerant has been reassigned to Worcester.
In addition, Rivermen Captain Trevor Baker has been placed on the 7-day injured reserve after undergoing sports hernia surgery, the third such occurrence in the last month for a Rivermen player, and defenseman Chad Starling has been added to the 7-day injured reserve. Veteran defenseman Chris Bogas and veteran goaltender Alfie Michaud have been activated from 7-day injured reserve.
Kaczowka â a 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of Regina Saskatchewan â posted 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in two games with the IceCats, after opening the 2004-2005 season with the Rivermen and collecting 12 PIM in three games. The 23-year-old ruffian, who has been injured the last month, tallied nine points (4g, 5a), 10 major penalties and 72 total penalty minutes (PIM) in just 15 games with the Rivermen last season after his reassignment by the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers from the Gwinnett Gladiators on March 1. He set career marks for goals (5), assists (T-7) and points (12) last season, while notching 18 total major penalties and ranking second on the Rivermen with 190 PIM; he has averaged nearly five (5) PIM per game (4.74) over 132 career professional games.
Pereira â a 6-foot, 200-pound native of Abbotsford, British Columbia â has posted 16 PIM with two fight majors in five games for the Rivermen this season. The 23-year-old racked up 144 PIM and 10 points (1g, 9a) during his rookie campaign, ranking fourth in PIM with the Rivermen during the 2003-2004 regular season and ranking fifth among ECHL rookies in majors (18). After completing a four-year career at University of Nebraska-Omaha (three of which came as a teammate of Scott Turner's) in the spring 2003, he opened last season with the expansion Texas Wildcatters, racking up 35 PIM in seven games.
Jerant â a 6-foot-6, 250-pound native of Windsor, Ontario â amassed 51 PIM, including seven fighting majors, in 14 games with the Rivermen in his reassignment, and the 24-year-old left wing registered 15 penalty minutes (PIM), including three fighting majors, in four games with Worcester to open 2004-2005. He was signed to a one-way AHL contract on July 31. Last season, he competed in 26 games for the Hershey Bears (AHL), registering 72 PIM with two assists, while also appearing in 13 games with three points (1g, 2a) and 26 PIM for the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League (UHL).
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen host the archrival Toledo Storm on Friday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. It is a Finally Friday, presented by 99X and Insight Media. The U.S. Marines will also host their annual "Toys for Tots" Holiday Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring a new toy for charity.
