Augusta Lynx News Release

Despite scoring the first two goals Friday night, the Augusta Lynx could not hold on to the lead in a 3-2 loss to the Florida Everblades in Fort Myers.

A scoreless first period gave way to an exciting second stanza, with the Lynx taking the lead on a Ken Magowan power play goal at 7:52 from Mike Sandbeck. Magowan drove to the front of the Everblades net after Sandbeck sent the faceoff his way, pushing the puck in between the legs of goaltender Rob Zepp. Following up the man advantage marker, the Lynx then notched a shorthanded goal at 10:27 with a beautiful set up from Jamie Johnson to Matt Dzieduszycki for a five-hole goal to make it 2-0. Florida stormed right back, notching a power play goal on the same advantage when Damian Surma banked a shot in off the back of a scrambling Matus Kostur at 11:42, followed by a Brent McDonald marker at 12:25 to forge a 2-2 tie after two periods of play.

Early chances for both teams would eventually lead to Keith Anderson's goal at 5:43, the third unanswered goal for the Everblades and eventual game winner. Tom Reimann and Steve Saviano helped set up the eventual game winner. Try as they might, the Lynx could not beat Zepp again. Late in the game with the extra attacker on the ice, Dzieduszycki went high over the glove of Zepp only to find the crossbar, and Augusta saw their chance at victory slip away 3-2. Kostur finished with 36 saves for Augusta, while Zepp turned in a 22 save performance for the win.

The same two teams do battle tomorrow night at 7:30 pm, with the pre-game show on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 starting at 7:05 pm with Tom Callahan. The game will also be available on the internet at www.augustalynx.com and www.sportsjuice.com.
