Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (13-11-1) picked up a 3-2 victory over the Augusta Lynx (7-14-2) at Germain Arena on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game winless streak for the 'Blades and sent the Lynx to their sixth straight loss.
After a scoreless first period, the Lynx jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the midpoint of the second period with a power play and short-handed goal. Ken Magowan opened the scoring at 7:52 of the period with his eighth goal of the year on the power play. His goal was followed by Augusta's third short-handed goal of the season when Matt Dzieduszycki slipped a shot past Everblades goalie Rob Zepp for the two-goal lead. However, the Everblades battled right back, and while on the same power play, Damian Surma banked in a shot off Augusta goaltender Matus Kostur's left arm to cut the Lynx lead in half at 11:36. Less than a minute later, Brent McDonald tied the game for Florida with his seventh goal of the season slapping home a shot from the right circle at 12:25.
With the teams even at two heading into the third period, The Everblades collected the eventual winning goal when Keith Anderson swatted a loose puck into an open net 5:43 into the third period. The Everblades weathered a fierce storm by the Lynx in the closing moments of the contest to hold on for the victory, and bring their record on home ice to 7-6-1.
Zepp picked up the win in goal stopping 22 of 24 Augusta shots, which brought his record to 5-6-0. Kostur suffered the loss for Augusta despite stopping 36 of 39 Florida shots. Kostur saw his record fall to 2-7-0. The Everblades finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play, while Augusta tallied on one of two power play chances.
Florida wraps up their five-game home stand on Saturday, December 18 at Germain Arena, when they host the Augusta Lynx at 7:30 p.m. You can hear all of the Everblades action on SportsRadio 770 AM or via internet by visiting www.floridaeverblades.com, www.abc-7.com, and www.nbc-2.com with the "Voice of the Everblades" Kevin Reiter calling the play-by-play.
