
Gladiators announce 2005 roster

Las Vegas, January 24, 2005 â In preparation for their season opener on Sunday, January 30, the Las Vegas Gladiators trimmed its roster for the 2005 Arena Football League season to the league limit by waiving 10 players, releasing two players and placing five on Injured Reserve.
The 2005 Gladiators roster is composed of 24 AFL veterans with no rookies and features 17 players returning from the 2004 team.
The roster breakdown by position follows (returning players in bold): Kicker (1) â Mark Lewis; Quarterback (2) â Clint Dolezel, Rod Robinson; Offensive Specialist (1) â Marcus Nash; FB/LB (3) â Desmond Byrd, Frank Carter, Cameron Chance, Rodney Filer; WR/DB (2) â Dennison Robinson, Dameon Porter; WR/LB (3) â Joe Douglass, Junior Lord, Coco Blalock; Defensive Specialists (4) â Cornelius Bonner, Marvin Taylor, Donald Malloy, Jeremy Unertl; OL/DL (7) â Wilky Bazile, Thaddeus Bullard, Joe Burch, Rick Cunningham, Steve Konopka, William Mayes, Lucas Yarnell.
To get down below the AFL roster limit, the Gladiators waived WR/DB DeVon Banks, DS Chris Canty, OL/DL Reggie Hargrove, WR/LB Gerald Harris, WR/DB Aaron Jones, OS Troy Mason, WR/LB Anthony Payton, FB/LB Enoch Smith, FB/LB Tupo Tuupo and OL/DL Tyshaun Whitson. They also released FB/LB Sunungura Rusununguko and QB Craig Whelihan. WR/DB T.J. Hill, WR/LB Ricky Ross, WR/DB Chameion Sutton, OL/DL's Rob Gatrell and Karl Bates were placed on IR.
The Gladiators will also have a four-man practice squad, but a player must clear waivers before being signed to the practice squad.
The Gladiators third season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Noon against divisional rival Los Angeles Avengers. The game will be televised nationally on NBC.
