Rush announces opening day roster
January 24, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release
The 2005 Chicago Rush announced its opening day roster after finishing training camp and completing its final cuts this weekend.
To pair down to the AFL mandated 24-man limit, the Rush released offensive specialist C.J. Johnson, FB/LB Merrill Robertson, WR/DB William Mulder, and linemen Gladston Taylor and Jason Baksas. The Rush also placed WR/DBs Donnie Caldwell and Carlos Wright, as well as lineman Scott Pospisil on the AFL's Injured Reserve list.
The 24-man roster features 22 AFL veterans and just two rookies â defensive specialist Tony Lukins and QB Asad Abdul-Khaliq. It includes 13 players who were members of the 2004 Central Division championship team which fell to eventual champion San Jose in the AFL semifinals.
"I like our team," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "I think we filled some openings with some experienced AFL players, which should allow us to be able to pick up right where we left off last year."
The Rush opens the 2005 season this Sunday, January 30, at Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The team's home opener kicks off at noon on Sunday, February 6, against Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul. Rush season tickets, beginning at just $64, currently are on sale. To reserve your tickets, or for more information about 2005 Rush season tickets, fans can call the Rush at (877) Rush-Tix (787-4849) or visit the team's Web site at www.chicagorush.com.
