January 24, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA â The Philadelphia Soul added the final piece to a 2005 broadcast bonanza today, inking a radio deal with Salem Communications WNTP (AM 990) to broadcast all 16 regular season games on Philadelphia airwaves. The partnership with WNTP will enable Soul fans to tune into games from all over the Philadelphia market, as the station broadcasts to a 23-county area in the greater Delaware Valley. All 16 games will also be available on the internet via streaming audio at www.philadelphiasoul.com.
"The Soul look forward to partnering with WNTP as AM 990 brings a lot to the table," Soul COO/CFO Mimi Box said. "As is very important with a radio broadcast, they have a very strong signal reaching much of our fan base from South Jersey to Trenton to Delaware as well as communities north and west of the city. We look forward to the extended reach of Soul games within the listening area."
"We're thrilled to partner with the premiere team in the AFL," said WNTP VP/GM Russ Whitnah. "We're impressed with both the passion and professionalism of the entire Soul organization. Philly's die-hard football fans couldn't ask for more!"
Ari Wolfe will return for his second season as the voice of the Soul (eighth year in the AFL), handling play-by-play duties. Wolfe recently worked nine NFL games and the Capital One Bowl for Fox Sports and USA One Radio. Wolfe will be partnered with Bill Osborn, a former NFL and AFL player who has spent the last 10 years broadcasting and providing analysis for various media outlets. Osborn, one of the most decorated high school athletes to come out of New Jersey, will draw upon his playing experience to add professional insight to the commentary, and provide listeners with a greater understanding of the game.
The Soul kick off the 2005 season this Sunday, January 30 on the road against the Austin Wranglers at 12 p.m. The first of eight home games will be held Sunday, February 13 at 3 p.m. in the Wachovia Center, when the Soul host the expansion Nashville Kats.
Season tickets for the Philadelphia Soul's second season are on sale now. For more information on season tickets call 1-888-PHIL-AFL or visit www.philadelphiasoul.com. The Soul led the Arena Football League in attendance averaging over 16,866 fans per home game, including six sellouts.
