The Gwinnett Gladiators have acquired forward John-Scott Dickson in a trade with the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for future consideration. In addition, the Gladiators have released forward Drew Akins.
Dickson will not be available for the Gladiators for tonight's 7:05 p.m. tilt at South Carolina against the Stingrays.
The North York, Ontario native has earned 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 27 games this season with the Steelheads. Dickson currently ranks fifth in scoring on the Steelheads and has two multiple point games this season with Idaho.
Dickson joined Idaho following his final season at the University of New Brunswick and was immediately called up to Rochester of the American Hockey League. He earned two assists in nine AHL games with Rochester. He recorded 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 15 games with Idaho in the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
He played five seasons with the University of New Brunswick from 2005-2010 and earned 128 points in 111 career games.
Dickson saw action in 19 ECHL games during the 2005-06 season with the Alaska Aces and earned 4 points (one goal, three assists) before he joined the University of New Brunswick.
Akins earned one assist in 10 games with the Gladiators after he was signed on December 17th.
The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
