Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, host of the 2010-11 ECHL All-Star Classic and ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, have won eight of their last nine games and return home this weekend. They will take the Mercy and Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7 and 8, as they play host to the Idaho Steelheads.

FRIDAY:

Friday, Jan. 7, is $1 Hot Dog Night and a chance to meet and get your photo taken with Hot Dog Eating Champion Takeru Kobayashi, sponsored by ABC23 and KERN 1180 AM. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs all night (limit 10 hot dogs per concession visit), and Hot Dog Eating Legend Takeru Kobayashi will perform a hot dog eating demonstration, as well as be a celebrity judge for a first intermission hot dog eating contest. Participating in the competition are local media celebrities, including Romeo from Hot 94.1 and Hop, the producer from Home Turf with Corey Costello on ESPN 1230 AM.

It is Kobayashi's first appearance of 2011, and his first ever at a hockey game! So come see the World Record Hot Dog Eater put down a few a dogs. Kobayashi's influence on competitive eating has been compared to Babe Ruth's impact on baseball, Wayne Gretzky's on hockey, and Tiger Woods' on golf. Kobayashi won the Nathan's Coney Island hot dog-eating contest (which takes place on Independence Day), six times in a row, from 2001-2006.

Kobayashi will be available for pictures at the Condors Photo Booth before the game and during the first period. Following his appearance on the ice, Kobayashi will be back at the Photo Booth for the second intermission.

Also during the first intermission, the Kern Trophies Condor of the Month will be awarded to the top performing Condor for the month of December. This month's winner is G Josh Tordjman. Be sure to visit bakersfieldcondors.com to vote for the top performer and every month.

SATURDAY:

Saturday, Jan. 8, is iPad Giveaway Night, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News, 106.1 KRAB Radio, and Mercy and Memorial Hospitals. 10 Grand Prize Winners will win a brand new Apple iPad at the game. Everyone in attendance is eligible to enter the drawing. The 10 winners will receive their new iPads at the game!

During the first intermission Saturday, 3 Way Chevrolet will hold a Vehicle Parade on the ice. The eating contests continue on Saturday with the Pizza Hut Hot Wing Contest, as two contestants will square off at center ice to see who can eat the most wings.

Following every home game, players will be available at the Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center Autograph Booth, located on the arena concourse behind section 108. D J.F. David and G Peter Hirsch will be available on Friday, and F Andrew Ianiero and F Michael Gergen will take their places on Saturday. Players will be available approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of each contest to greet fans and sign autographs.

The Condors start the week on the road, as they head to Ontario to battle with the Reign this Wednesday. The game starts at 7 p.m. The Condors are currently four points behind the first place Las Vegas Wranglers in the Pacific Division.

All three games this week can be heard live at www.foxsports970am.com, or you can listen on your smartphone by downloading the iheartradio app. All the games are also streamed live online through America One.
