Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu for the 2010-11 season.
The Toronto, ON native joins the Salmon Kings after splitting the 2009-10 season with the ECHL's Florida Everblades and American Hockey League's (AHL) Rochester Americans. Beckford-Tseu played the majority of his year in Florida where he posted a 19-11-4 record to go along with a 3.19 goals against average, a save percentage of 0.903 and two shutouts. He also appeared in six games with the Americans going 0-4-0 to match a 0.869 save percentage and a 4.66 goals against average.
Beckford-Tseu, 26, also spent time in the 2008-09 campaign between the ECHL (Phoenix Roadrunners) and AHL (Rochester). In 22 games in the AHL that season he went 3-14-1 with a goals against average of 3.94 as well as a save percentage of 0.868. His time in the ECHL saw him start 11 games with Phoenix going 2-7-1, which included a 0.863 save percentage and 5.09 goals against average. Beckford-Tseu also appeared in one game with the Everblades
The 6-2, 201 lb netminder spent four seasons (2004-05 thru 2007-08) in the St. Louis Blues' system after being drafted by the club in the fifth round (#159 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. In 42 career games played with the Blues' ECHL affiliate in Alaska, Beckford-Tseu went 35-5-2 to go along with a goals against average of 1.94, a 0.930 save percentage and five shutouts. He also started in 79 games during that span in the AHL with the Peoria Rivermen where he notched a 33-30-7 record with two shutouts, a 2.73 goals against average and 0.897 save percentage.
During the 2007-08 season, Beckford-Tseu donned an NHL jersey in one game with the St. Louis Blues, where he made eight of nine saves in a 27-minute relief appearance versus the Los Angeles Kings.
Beckford-Tseu began his professional career during the 2004-05 season where he started 29 games with the Rivermen's ECHL franchise going 11-12-3. This included a 0.908 save percentage, a goals against average of 2.71 and one shutout.
For his professional career, Beckford-Tseu has marked a record of 103-83-19 in 230 career starts. This includes a 2.91 goals against average, a 0.900 save percentage and 10 shutouts.
Prior to turning professional, Beckford-Tseu spent a three-year junior career (2001-02 thru 2003-04) in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) split between the Guelph Storm, Oshawa Generals and Kingston Frontenacs. In 115 career starts he went 46-53-6 to match a save percentage of 0.898, a 3.28 goals against average and seven shutouts.
