Scott Howes Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week
January 4, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
Aces forward Scott Howes has been named the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 27th - Jan. 2nd, the ECHL announced on Tuesday. Howes led the Aces to a four-win week with six points, helping to keep the Aces season-high, eight-game winning streak alive. The Aces will conclude their 12-game home stand this week with three games against the Las Vegas Wranglers in a matchup of the two top records in the Western Conference. Tickets for all three games are on sale. For more information, please contact the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit www.alaskaaces.com, or the Alaska Aces Hockey Team on Facebook.
Howes, 23, had points in the last three games of the week, and combined for six points (3g, 3a) in the quartet of victories. The third-year pro had one assist in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Idaho in Alaska's second win of the week. He then notched his first two-goal game of the season as part of a three-point night in a New Year's Eve 5-3 victory over Ontario. On New Year's Day, he continued his hot hand, furnishing a goal and an assist in another 5-3 win over the Reign.
Howes currently ranks third on the Aces in both points and goals. He has 18 points (9g, 9a) in 22 games since joining Alaska, and 19 points in 23 games overall. Howes is on pace to set multiple career highs this season, and this is his first ECHL Player of the Week Award. He becomes the second Aces player to receive the honor this season, joining Wes Goldie who won the award in November.
On behalf of Scott Howes a case of pucks will be donated to an Alaska youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
Don't miss your last chance to catch the Aces this week before they head back on the road. The Aces will host the Las Vegas Wranglers on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:15pm. Tickets for all three games are on sale. For more information, please contact the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit www.alaskaaces.com, or the Alaska Aces Hockey Team on Facebook.
