Gladiators 4th Annual "Pink in the Rink" Cancer Fundraiser this Weekend
March 17, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators 4th Annual "Pink in the Rink" charity fundraiser is this weekend, Friday, March 18th, Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20th as the Gladiators continue their annual "March To The Playoffs" with a 3-game heated division-rivalry matchup against the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
"Pink in the Rink" is the Gladiators highest-profile annual fundraising effort, netting over $180,000 to benefit numerous local charities in North Georgia during the first three editions of the "Pink in the Rink" weekend. This season, the Gladiators have teamed up with "The Sport of Giving" and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life as the primary beneficaries of the 3-game "Pink in the Rink" weekend. These and other organizations sold Gladiators fundraising tickets to help raise money for their cause, with the opportunity to receive a portion of the proceeds from various team-sponsored fundraising activities associated with "Pink In The Rink".
This season, the players will wear special limited-edition "Margaritaville Gladiators" themed jerseys which will be auctioned off following Sunday's game as part of the fundraising efforts of "Pink in the Rink". As the organization has done in previous seasons, all the proceeds from this live post-game specialty jersey auction of the "Margaritaville Gladiators" game-worn jerseys will be exclusively reserved for charitable donation. Over the first seven seasons, the Gladiators Annual Jersey auction has netted over $231,000 for area charities.
"This year's theme of "Margaritaville Gladiators" reflects the personality of our organization and our emphasis on providing a fun atmosphere for our fans," said team president Steve Chapman. "Every year we select a different theme, incorporating a unique design into the jerseys to enhance their value as a true collector's items - which in turn helps raise more money for participating "Pink In The Rink" charities and our community."
In what has become a local sensation and fan favorite, the Gladiators will also skate on a pink ice surface during the games over the weekend. It will be the fourth consecutive season that the Gladiators will skate on pink ice, and the fifth time in team history that the team has skated on colored ice during a home game. (The ice was dyed green for St. Patrick's Day on March 17th during the 2006-07 season.)
Fans who wish to participate and make a donation to the Gladiators fundraising efforts will have the opportunity to stop by one of the organization's tables on the main concourse at either of the games to make a donation. In addition, the Gladiators will be holding a 50/50 raffle both games with a portion of the proceeds to be given to the cause.
The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
