Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced the third annual "Easy Being Green" event scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 25-26 at Stockton Arena for two games against the Victoria Salmon Kings, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
"Thunder's Easy Being Green" is presented by California Water Service Company and co-sponsored by Surtec System, ChemStation of Northern California, ServiceMASTER Clean and Port of Stockton California. Last year's event drew over 13,500 fans to the annual event during two games (Mar. 5-6).
The event unites hockey and community involvement with an eco-friendly campaign for both games, capping a month-long environmental awareness promotion throughout the Central Valley with "green-themed" weekend events.
During the game, CBC Steel Buildings will be presented as winner of this year's "Easy Being Green" award - selected in conjunction with Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce Green Team San Joaquin. For each ticket sold, $2 and a portion of the event proceeds from the Green Fair will benefit their selected charity on behalf of CBC Steel Buildings in honor of their commitment to the environment.
Fans can show their pride with eco-friendly microfiber cloth rally towels, courtesy of ServiceMASTER Clean, that will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans both nights. Also, the first 2,000 family households in attendance will receive complimentary Thunder eco-friendly tote bags and an environmental activity book will be given out to the first 1,000 kids (ages 12 and under) in attendance.
Continuing the event's tradition, a portion of Stockton Arena's concourse will be transformed into a "Green Fair" before and during both games that invites all fans in attendance beginning at 6:30 p.m. Fans are invited to visit booths hosted by local environmentally conscious organizations, ranging in categories including recycling, anti-pollution, clean air, water, renewable energy sources, eco-friendly agriculture and more.
On the way out, each family will take home a free tree sapling or plant, specially grown by the San Joaquin Delta College Horticulture Program.
Tickets for both Friday and Saturday's games are on sale beginning at $7 and can be purchased by calling (209) 373-1700 or by visiting www.StocktonTickets.com.
A proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10. Season tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets are on sale now. For more information about tickets, merchandise, or other inquiries contact the Stockton Thunder offices at (209) 373-1500 or visit http://www.stocktonthunder.com/.
