Elmira Jackals News Release

Trenton, N.J. - The Elmira Jackals (30-24-6-3) won their first game after regulation of the season on Wednesday night at the Sun National Bank Center, 3-2, over the Trenton Devils (23-33-2-6) in a 10-round shootout. Marco Cousineau, the reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week, made 33 saves as the Jackals jumped into a tie for fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Jackals never led during the game as Trenton established leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Matt Lombardi wristed a puck over the glove of Cousineau from the right circle at 1:32 of the first period to start the scoring and put the Devils up, 1-0.

Elmira tied the game when Eric Regan's wrist shot from the left point deflected off of Trenton goaltender Jeff Lerg and into the net at 6:59 of the opening period to tie the game, 1-1.

Dan Charleston's wrist shot from the low slot on a feed from Ryan Ginand with the Devils on the power play at 1:46 of the middle frame beat Cousineau and made it 2-1, Devils.

Justin Donati fired in a one timer from the left circle on a cross-ice pass from A.J. Perry to tie the game, 2-2, at 13:22 of the second period.

The Jackals and Devils skated into overtime for a second-straight game, as Trenton defeated in Elmira in a shootout, 3-2, on Sunday.

In overtime, Jackals winger Michael Dubuc had to be placed on a stretcher and taken off the ice for examination after a collision with Trenton's Jordon Southorn. At this time, all tests are normal. Dubuc will be reevaluated by Jackals team doctors on Monday.

The shootout appearance was Elmira's third in as many games.

Matt Germain's shootout goal in the second round gave the Devils the advantage. A.J. Perry evened things up when he wristed a puck past Lerg's glove in the third round.

The teams went into the 10th round of the shootout tied at a goal apiece. Drew Paris, on Elmira's sixth chance to end the contest in the shootout, deked and beat Lerg with a forehand past the glove side to win the game for the Jackals, 3-2. The Jackals improved to 1-9 on the season in games that have gone into overtime. The victory was Elmira's first in a shootout since Jan. 9, 2010.

Cousineau improved his season record to 20-12-4-1, upped his save percentage to .903, and lowered his goals-against average to 3.04. He allowed just one goal on 10 shots in the shootout in addition to his 33 saves in regulation. Lerg's record dropped to 9-10-0-1 as he set aside 32 of 34 shots and allowed two goals on 10 bids in the shootout.

The Jackals' six-game point-earning streak (4-0-0-2) is tied for the longest current such streak in the league and is their longest of the 2010-2011 season. Elmira is now 8-1-0-2 under head coach Robbie S. Nichols.

Elmira is tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with the Wheeling at 69 points. The Jackals have one game in hand on the Nailers. Elmira is two points back with a game in hand on South Carolina for fourth place.
