Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

The Rockies lost their fifth straight on Wednesday as the Mustangs secured the series win with an 8-5 victory.

Despite out-hitting Billings and taking their first lead of the series 1-0 on a bases loaded walk from Turner Brown in the second, Junction's bats would hold quiet until the eighth.

In the middle innings, the Mustangs tied things up at 1-1 on an Eric Yang RBI single in the fourth and then took the 2-1 lead in the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice from Reyny Reyes.

As the Rockies turned to the bullpen in the seventh, the home team took advantage of the combined three hits and four walks issued by Blair Calvo and Juan Mejia to tally six in the frame and blow things out to 8-1.

For the first time on their road trip, GJ's bats drew home runs as Brenton Doyle's two-run bomb and Todd Isaacs' solo shot went back-to-back and cut the deficit to 8-4 in the eighth.

However, it proved to be too little too late as Jack Yalowitz's sacrifice fly was all the Rox could muster in the ninth as All-Star Jake Stevenson closed out the ninth with an 8-5 final.

Riding the new season-high in consecutive losses, Grand Junction will look to salvage the series finale tomorrow behind Mitchell Kilkenny in his tenth start of the season.
