Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Monday that Charleston RiverDogs right-handed relief pitcher Mike Gipson has been placed on the 7-day DL, retroactive to April 17. Right-handed pitcher Mike Recchia replaces Gipson on the roster, added from the Staten Island Yankees.

Gipson, a 31st round pick of the Yankees in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, was effective in two appearances out of the bullpen, pitching to a 3.60 ERA with seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The Florida Atlantic University product fanned six over 3.0 frames of work in his 2011 debut on April 13 versus Greenville.

Recchia, who signed with the Yankees as a free agent in June 2010, made 22 relief appearances with the NYPL Staten Island Yankees in his rookie season. The Eastern Illinois alum went 0-1 with a 4.93 ERA and one save while limiting left-handed batters to a .214 batting average (12-for-56).

The RiverDogs play the last of a four-game set with the Rome Braves tonight before welcoming the rival Greenville Drive (Red Sox affiliate) to town tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19, at 7:05 pm. For more information on tickets visit www.riverdogs.com or call the RiverDogs' box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647).
