Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Suns (9-3) won Game Four at Municipal Stadium on Monday afternoon in walk-off fashion over the Lakewood BlueClaws. With the series in favor of the Hagerstown Suns, it was an old fashioned pitcher's duel throughout. Hagerstown RHP Cameron Selik, who did not factor into the decision despite pitching stellar, went 5.0 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk, while striking out 11. Selik twice fanned the side, in the 1st and 5th frames.
BlueClaws LHP Ervis Manzanillo tossed 6.0 scoreless and like Selik, surrendered just one base hit, in addition to walking one and striking out six.
Hagerstown's bullpen was very solid as RHP Wilson Eusebio and LHP Paul Applebee combined for three scoreless innings and five strike outs. LHP Chris Manno (1-0), the winning pitcher, earned the win after working a perfect top of the 9th inning and fanning two. The Lakewood lineup racked up 18 strikeouts throughout the duration of the ballgame. BlueClaws 2B Jeremy Barnes was the only hitter to avoid a strikeout.
The Suns finally pushed across a run in the home half of the 9th by loading the bases after Jason Martinson singled to right field, Michael Taylor walked, and Randolph Oduber reached on an error by the SS Edgar Duran. Adrian Sanchez hit a fielder's choice chopper to force the first out. Then, Brett Newsome, who entered the game to pinch-hit for DH Bryce Harper, who was lifted from the game in the 7th inning, lofted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Taylor and send the Suns off as walk-off winners by a score of 1-0.
Lakewood RHP Eric Pettis (0-1), the losing pitcher, was on the mound to allow the unearned run in the 9th inning, giving up one run on one hit, while walking two.
The Hagerstown Suns will host the Hickory Crawdads of the Texas Rangers farm system from Tuesday, April 19th-Saturday, April 23rd for a five-game home series to complete the 2011 opening homestand.
