Hickory Crawdads News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads won their second consecutive series with their third straight victory, 6-1, against the Kannapolis Intimidators before 701 fans at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis on Monday night.
For the third straight game, the Crawdads (8-4) struck first in the top of the first. LF Teodoro Martinez led off with a walk against RHP Ryan Buch (L, 1-2) and quickly stole his way around to third base. With one away, DH Tomas Telis brought Martinez in with a sacrifice fly to center, cracking the scoreless tie. 2B Odubel Herrera then extended the inning with a two-out single to right, before racing all the way around to score on an RBI triple to left-center by RF Josh Richmond, making it 2-0.
The Intimidators (7-4) quickly cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning against RHP Roman Mendez (W, 2-0). 2B Ross Wilson reached on a fielder's choice, before moving to second on a LF Brady Shoemaker single and scoring on a basehit by C Mike Blanke to make it 2-1.
Hickory stretched the lead right back to multiple runs in the top of the fourth, plating three more. Herrera was hit by a pitch to start the inning, followed by a Richmond walk and an RBI double by 3B Christian Villanueva. After 1B Jhonny Gomez worked a walk to load the bases, C Kellin Deglan drove in two with a base hit, putting the 'Dads up, 5-1.
After another three-up, three-down inning dealt by Mendez, the 'Dads tacked on another tally on a fielding error by SS Kyle Eveland in the top of the fifth, enabling CF Jake Skole to race in from third and make it 6-1.
After Mendez kept the Intimidators bats in check through 5.1 innings, RHP Joe Van Meter (1.2 innings) and RHP Zach Osborne (2 innings) combined to blank Kannapolis the rest of the way, closing the 6-1 win for Hickory.
