Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - John Gibson stopped all 25 shots faced to help lift the Norfolk Admirals to a 1-0 shutout victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Norfolk Scope Friday night. The shutout was Gibson's fourth of the season and his career.
Solid goaltending by Hartford's David LeNeveu and Norfolk's John Gibson kept both teams scoreless through the first two periods. LeNeveu saved 12 shots while Gibson stopped 20 after the first 40 minutes of play.
Finally, at 13:31 of the third, the Admirals found the back of the net. Defenseman Kevin Gagne circled from the left point towards the near side faceoff circle before firing a shot toward the net. Forward Chris Wagner moved in on LeNeveu at the top of the crease, and turned to face the puck. Wagner used the shaft of his stick to redirect the shot past LeNeveu for the only goal of the contest.
A restless Norfolk Scope crowd erupted and the Admirals backed by Gibson, were able to hang on in the final minutes to beat Hartford, 1-0. An important two points helps Norfolk keep pace with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton who coasted to a 5-1 victory over Portland Friday night.
The evening's third star, LeNeveu, made 13 saves on just 14 Admiral shots. Gibson denied all 25 shots that came his way en route to being named the first star of the game.
Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton remain tied for second in the East Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference with 58 points after Friday night.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at Scope. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. Game tickets are now on sale, and are available through the Norfolk Scope Box Office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online at ticketmaster.com .
