Hershey Bears News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Luke Adam, Dan Catenacci and Brayden Irwin each tallied one goal and one assist, while goaltender Matt Hackett turned aside 25 shots to help the Rochester Americans skate past the Hershey Bears 4-1 on Friday night at Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
The hosts would grab the game's first goal exactly 11:00 into the contest. On the Amerks' very next rush after defenseman Nick Crawford floated a shot off of the crossbar, Adam carried down the left wing and sent a slap shot over the blocker of goaltender David Leggio for his 20th goal of the season.
The Bears would counter and tie the game on their second power play of the period. Jeff Taffe carried out of the right-wing corner toward the inside of the right circle. His short pass attempt deflected past Hackett at 12:52.
But only 23 seconds later, the hosts would reclaim the lead when Jamie Tardif cruised in front of Leggio and batted down a wrist shot from Crawford.
It took just 29 seconds into the second period for Rochester to pad their lead further. Catenacci used his speed to get beyond the reach of a Hershey defenseman and slide a low shot that trickled through Leggio's pads.
Hershey turned up their pressure in the third period, but ended up getting caught on a pinch play by the defense. Adam sent a long pass to a streaking Irwin, who broke in from the right wing and deposited a backhand shot off of Leggio's stick and in at 13:04 to round out the scoring.
Leggio stopped 28 shots but fell to 14-13-2 on the season, while Hackett improved to 13-12-2.
The Bears return home tomorrow, February 8 for a 7:00 PM faceoff against the Portland Pirates.
