Gators overpowered by Lynx

Augusta, GA The Louisiana IceGators losing streak stretched to 4 games as the Gators allowed a team record 5 power play goals to the Augusta Lynx in a 6-4 loss Sunday in Augusta. With the loss, Louisiana remains winless in 2005.

     The Augusta Lynx jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead helped largely by two power play goals. Matt Dzieduszycki (7) started the scoring at 5:15 as his wrist shot from 45 feet out beat Nathan Marsters for a 1-0 lead. The next two Lynx goals were scored on the power play. At 10:04 Eric Johansson took advantage of a 5 on 3, ripping a top shelf one timer from the right circle for a 2-0 Augusta advantage. The deficit ran to 3-0 as Todd Bennett scored his 10th of the year, a rebound goal at 12:49. Louisiana was able to light the lamp late in period when Josh Barker scored his first goal as an IceGator. The D-Man sent a wrist shot through a Chris Thompson screen past Matus Kostur to make the score 3-1 after 20 minutes, Thompson and Jade Galbraith assisting on the Barker goal. For the period, Augusta outshot the Gators 20-6.

     The power play display continued in the 2nd period as 4 more goals were scored on the man advantage. Augusta getting power play tallies from Ken McGowan (12) at 1:26, Todd Bennett (11) at 9:11 and Jim Shepherd (8) at 12:08. The Gators only goal of the period also came on the power play as Roger Leonard backhanded home his own rebound at 3:25. For the rookie from Bowling Green it was his 3rd marker of the year, getting the assists were Chris Heid and Randy Dagenais.

     Both goals in the 3rd period would belong to Louisiana as John Evangelista scored his first goal as a Gator on a tip in at 14:19. Mark Rooneem would end the scoring, as he followed his own shot and sent the rebound into the net for his 4th of the year at 19:07. Louisiana falls to 14-16-3 and 5th place in the South. The Gators used a late surge and outshot the Lynx 39-38. Power plays were 2-7 for the Gators and 5-9 for the Lynx. The Gators will travel to Gwinnett for a 6:05 CST Tuesday night contest with the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Friday, January 14, 2005 NASCAR Night, Gators vs. Sea Wolves 7:05pm:

The ONLY home game of the month in on January 14, when the Gators host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on NASCAR night. Dale Earhardt Jr's #8 race car will be on display during the game. Pictures can be taken with the car for $10, net proceeds to benefit St. Jude's hospital. The Gators will be wearing special "NASCAR" jerseys which will auctioned off after the game.
