Fresno Falcons News Release

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Gulls forward Sylvain Deschatelets scored 3:37 into overtime to give his club a 4-3 win over the Fresno Falcons at the San Diego Sports Arena in front of a crowd of 6,207.

Fresno drew first blood on the game's first shift when Jason Weaver fed Derek Krestanovich through the slot, who chipped a shot off the left post and in for his 13th of the year just 45 seconds into the game. The Falcons carried their 1-0 advantage into the second after an evenly played period that saw both clubs generate 13 shots on goal.

The Gulls tied the game early in the middle period on the last of five straight power plays. Deschatelets took a pass from Mark Pederson as the Falcons got caught in a bad line change and proceeded to beat goaltender Brett Jaeger at 3:55. Fresno re-gained the lead, though, when San Diego gambled by pinching at the offensive blueline, and Dan Tessier finished the ensuing two-on-one with a missile top shelf from the left circle for his team-leading 15th of the year at 6:04 of the second period.

San Diego used special teams to claw its way in front during the third. San Jose Shark Curtis Brown polished off a short-handed, two-on-one rush with his third of the year just 57 seconds in the period. The NHL'er then added his second of the night when he jammed in a rebound on the power play at 5:45. Fresno answered with a power play goal of its own when Jason Weaver blistered a slapshot past goaltender Eddie Ferhi at 8:51 to even the game at three, eventually sending the game to overtime.

In the five-minute extra session, the Falcons managed to kill off a five-on-three for the Gulls, but just as Dustin VanBallegooie stepped out of the penalty box to create a four-on-four situation, Deschatelets scored off a one-timer from the right circle to deliver the overtime win, 4-3.

The Falcons earned a single point with the overtime loss, giving them a record of 16-13-4 on the year. They are tied with the Gulls in fourth place in the West Division with 36 points.
