Gary Mitchell Promoted to Inland Empire

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that OF Gary Mitchell has been promoted to Inland Empire of the California League. Mike LaCassa, Minor League Operations Manager for the LA Angels, announced the move on Wednesday.

The Angels selected Mitchell in the 21st round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of Neumann (PA) University and he was a member of the Kernels 2012 Opening Day Roster. In 87 games for the Kernels, he hit .245 with 14 HR and 46 RBI and his 14 home runs leads the Kernels.

The Angels have not announced a corresponding move. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at 24 active players, one short of the MWL maximum of, with two players on the disabled list.

The Kernels begin a three game road trip tonight at 6:30 pm against the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 1st to host the Clinton LumberKings at 6:35 pm.
