
Lugs win 80th, blast past Silver Hawks, 7-3

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Lansing Lugnuts (33-30, 80-52) powered their way past the South Bend Silver Hawks (30-35, 65-70) in a 7-3 victory on Wednesday night at The Cove.
The Lugnuts offense pounded out 13 hits and recorded five extra base knocks. K.C. Hobson (3-for-4, BB) smashed his 10th home run of the year, recorded a double, scored three times and drove in a pair. Shane Opitz (2-for-4, 2 R) delivered his second home run of the year. Kevin Patterson (3-for-5) drove in three runs and mashed a pair of doubles.
Lugnuts righty Shawn Griffith (Win, 2-1) relieved Lugnuts starter Kramer Champlin with two outs and two runners on in a one-run game. Griffith retired the first batter he faced to end the threat in the fourth inning on his way to 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just three hits, walking one and striking out two.
Champlin went 3 2/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits, walking three and striking out four.
Ian Kadish (Save, 2) worked the eighth and ninth innings without allowing a run and striking out three.
Lansing jumped on Silver Hawks starter Conrad Flynn (Loss, 0-1) with two runs in the first inning. Flynn lasted six innings, but gave up 10 hits and five runs.
The Lugnuts play the middle affair of this three-game series in South Bend on Thursday, August 30th at 7:05 p.m. Lansing will send Aaron Sanchez (8-4, 2.74) to the mound, with South Bend countering with Archie Bradley (11-6, 3.88) in a matchup of top prospects.
