Dayton, Ohio-Major leaguer Joey Votto returned to Dayton for the second game of his injury rehabilitation assignment but the Great Lakes Loons scored two runs in the ninth inning and held on to defeat the Dragons 5-4 on Wednesday night. The Dragons were eliminated from the playoff race with the loss. A crowd of 9,035 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.

Dayton led 4-2 after seven innings but Great Lakes picked up an unearned run in the eighth and then scored two in the ninth for the win. Jesus Arredondo's one-out, pinch-hit double drove in the tying run, and Nick Akins' infield single with the bases loaded and two outs brought in the tie-breaker.

The Dragons started the scoring in the third inning when Votto walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a triple to right by Yorman Rodriguez. Great Lakes took the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by Tyler Ogle to jump ahead 2-1.

The Dragons tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Junior Arias, his fifth of the season. Dayton took the lead in the fifth as Juan Perez tripled and scored on Jefry Sierra's single to make it 3-2. Juan Silva delivered a two-out run-scoring single later in the inning to give the Dragons a 4-2 lead that they held until the eighth.
