Lancaster Stormers News Release
For the third consecutive night, the Long Island Ducks got the big hits, and the Lancaster Barnstormers did not get many.
Shaun Garceau pitched the second complete game of the series for Long Island, checking the Barnstormers on seven hits as Long Island won its third straight in the series, 7-1.
The loss, a record-tying ninth straight on the road for Lancaster, keeps the Barnstormers in a first place tie with the York Revolution in the Freedom Division. Both clubs are 23-17.
Garceau (4-1) scattered six singles and two walks over the first eight innings, keeping the Barnstormers from reaching third base at any point. His bid for a shutout was spoiled when Amos Ramon cracked a one-out homer to left in the top of the ninth, his first as a Barnstormer.
The right-hander finished the night walking three and striking out nine.
For the second straight night, Lancaster's pitchers batted. James Skelton returned to the lineup on Wednesday, but Jerry Owens was a late scratch due to an injury to his right shoulder. Garceau struck out Cody Scarpetta trying to bunt in the third, but Scarpetta got some revenge with a single in the fifth. Pete Andrelczyk struck out looking at a 3-2 pitch in the seventh, following a pair of walks. Pete Parise drew a walk in the ninth, batting for Brian Grening.
Scarpetta (0-2) was solid, except for the third inning. The right-hander walked three consecutive batters with one out. He managed to whiff Cody Puckett and got Lew Ford to 2-2, but the Ducks center fielder delivered a two-run single to left. Joash Brodin drove in two more with a double whacked off the boards in the right field corner. Randy Ruiz topped off the inning with an RBI single to left center.
For good measure, Ford added a two-run homer off Andrelczyk in the seventh.
The clubs wrap up the series on Thursday evening. Mark Rogers (1-1) hits the hill for the Barnstormers against Ducks' right-hander Fernando Hernandez (2-2). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: Cole Garner went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest by a Barnstormer this season...Ford and Garner each have 26 hits in the 12 games of the season series...Ramon had his first two-hit game with Lancaster...The season series stands at 6-6.
