Bridgeport Fall to the Skeeters

(Sugar Land, TX. - June 4, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-4 on Wednesday evening at Constellation Field.

Bridgeport jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when catcher J.R. Towles hit a two-run home run, the fifth home run of the season for Towles. After giving up a run to Sugar Land in the bottom of the first inning, the 'Fish picked up two more runs in the top of the third when designated hitter Prentice Redman hit a sacrifice fly and left fielder Joe Mather reached on an error, giving Bridgeport a 4-1 lead. After Sugar Land cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning, second baseman Chase Lambin hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4, and then came around to score on first baseman Delwyn Young's sacrifice fly, giving the hosts a 5-4 lead and would not look back from there.

Bridgeport's starter D.J. Mitchell (1-4) earned up the loss, scattering 11 hits and six runs in five innings pitched while Sugar Land's starter Steve Hammond (2-5) picked up the victory, throwing five innings and allowed four runs and three earned runs on five hits. Gary Majewski picked up his sixth save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

Bridgeport will conclude their four-game series against Sugar Land on Thursday evening at 8:05pm, a game that can be seen on ESPN3. The Bluefish return home to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, June 6th to start a four game series against the Somerset Patriots, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
