Hale, Sharks Trip up Blue Crabs

CAMDEN, NJ . - Jake Hale was one out shy of a complete game as the Camden Riversharks held on to defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by the final score of 4-3 in the second game of their four-game series. Camden outhit Southern Maryland 13-5 in the contest.

Hale (3-3) got his first win in three starts against the Blue Crabs this season. He went 8.2 allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Matt Gorgen came on for the final out to record his tenth save of the season. Brian Baker (1-4) could not reciprocate his one-hit performance against Camden a second time and took the loss. He gave up three runs on a season-high 11 hits in 6.0 innings.

Southern Maryland (16-22) had a chance to tie the game in the 9th inning after a Jake Opitz RBI single brought the score to 4-3, but Tony Delmonico struck out with the tying run on third base for the final out.

The Blue Crabs struck first in the opening half inning with a pair of runs.

C.J. Ziegler drove in Jonny Kaplan and Dave Sappelt with a two-run single for a 2-0 lead.

Yasser Gomez tied the game up in the bottom of the 4th with a two-run home run, his first of the season. Gomez made it three RBIs on the night in the 6th inning with an RBI single that gave the Riversharks their first lead at 3-2.

Camden (15-24) added an important insurance run in the bottom of the 8th when Charlie Manning walked Zack MacPhee with the bases loaded to bring in Jose Julio-Ruiz and make it 4-2.

The Blue Crabs finish their four-game series with the Camden Riversharks tomorrow with a day-night doubleheader at 11:05 and 7:05. The team returns home for a five-game series spanning four days against the Long Island Ducks beginning Friday June 6.
